Chan backs off from persona non grata move against rapper, slams ‘Panalo’ song instead, seeks public apology
LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines — Instead of declaring the rapper EZ Mil as persona non grata, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan will now only recommend to the City Council to pass a resolution condemning the rapper’s song entitled “Panalo.”
In his Facebook post, Chan said that he condemned the lyrics of the song, specifically the line “Nanalo na ako nung una pa na pinugutan si Lapu sa Mactan.”
Chan is urging the rapper to change the lyrics of the song that describes the national hero, Datu Lapulapu. He also asks for a public apology from the rapper to the Oponganons.
“Mao nga isip amahan sa dakbayan, nasakitan ko sa pagbiaybiay nga gibuhat. Kung wala giila ni Ez Mil nga bayani si Datu Lapulapu dili na lang unta siya maghimo og kanta nga makamugna og kalagot ug kasuko sa matag Oponganon,” Chan said.
(Since I am the father of the city, I am hurt by his action to ridicule [Lapulapu]. If Ez Mil does not recognize Datu Lapulapu as a hero, then he should not have made a song that can anger every Oponganon.)

In his earlier statement, Chan said that he would ask the city council to declare EZ Mil persona non grata after the rapper disparage the honor of the national hero.
“Dili makiangayon ngadto sa sons and daughters ni Lapulapu ug sa matag Oponganon ang gisuwat nga lyrics sa maong rapper. Mismong ang atong Presidente nihatag og pasidungog ni Datu Lapulapu pinaagi sa pag-highlight sa ika-500 nga kasumaran sa Kadaugan sa Mactan karong Abril 27, 2021,” he added.
(The lyrics that the rapper wrote is not just and fair to the sons and daughters of Lapulapu and to every Oponganon. Even our President recognized and honored Datu Lapulapu for his highlighting the 500th anniversary of the Kadaugan sa Mactan this coming April 27, 2021.)

Chan is worried, that the song might create confusion to Filipinos, especially to the younger generation.
“Maka-create unya ni ug kagubot, kasamok ug kalibog sa mga bata,” he said.
(This might cause trouble and confusion to the children.)
Last month, the city together with the Department of Education (DepEd) Lapu-Lapu City Division, has launched a module that gives the right information about the life of Datu Lapulapu and the Victory at Mactan./dbs
