LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu—The proposed resolution which condemns the lyrics of the song  “Panalo” of EZ Mil was deferred by the Lapu-Lapu City Council during their special session on Tuesday afternoon, February 9, 2021.

The proposed resolution entitled a “Resolution condemning the lyrics of the song Panalo by Ez Mil and requesting the latter for the rectification of the condemned lyrics and to issue a public apology addressed to the Oponganons,” which was authored by councilor Jan Vincent Dela Serna, will be taken up in their next regular session on February 18.

During their special session, Vice-mayor Celedonio “Celsi” Sitoy, who presides the session, deferred the proposed resolution upon request of the councilors for further study.

To recall, the song became controversial after it included in the lyrics the line “Nanalo na ako nung una pa na pinugutan si Lapu sa Mactan. At lahat and nasaktan na nalaman nila na pinatay ang kanilang bayani sa karagatan ng bansa na pag-aari ng Pilipino.”

The resolution also stated that the video performance of the song was uploaded on YouTube and has garnered more than 27 million views.

It further stated that the lyrics of the song is  “historically inaccurate, if not demeaning and besmirching the name of our National Hero, not to mention the fact that the city is about to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Victory at Mactan on April 27, 2021.”
