CEBU CITY, Philippines— Bikes are known to be big heroes of mother earth because it releases nothing but good for both the cyclists and to its environment.

To make it more eco-friendly, a cyclist from Quezon City who is now based in Cebu is making bamboo bike frames a thing in Cebu.

Erwin Livelo names his bamboo bike frames “Bamboodoo bikes.”

Since 2013 he has been advocating and making bamboo bike frames after seeing pictures of it made abroad by Calfee bikes.

“Bamboo bikes are eco-friendly since the carbon footprint in manufacturing (them) is much lower than other frames of different materials. It’s a renewable source of building material since we have an abundant supply of bamboo. Bamboo frames absorb a lot of vibration during rides. It’s also much stronger than steel in terms of tensile strength,” said Livelo.

It takes him about two weeks to finish one bamboo bike frame.

Each bamboo bike frame has bamboo as its main tube but there are aluminum inserts.

“Bamboo poles are tacked to these inserts then wrapped with hemp fiber to complete the frame,” he added.

Now, cyclists from all over Cebu and some parts of the Philippines are getting the hang of bamboo frame bikes as it looks new and cool to many.

Not just that, it is sustainable and eco-friendly.
