Rep. Radaza: My friendship with late Councilor Ycong beyond public service
LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines — “Si Marcial, motrabaho bisan walay makabalo. Motrabaho bisan way magtan-aw. Mao kana ang style sa panerbisyo ni Marcial.”
(Marcial, will work even if no one know of his efforts. He will work even if no one is looking. That is Marcial’s style of service)
This is how Lapu-Lapu City lone district Congresswoman Paz Radaza described former Vice Mayor and incumbent city councilor Marcial Ycong, during her eulogy last evening, February 26, 2021, at the city hall.
Ycong died of a heart attack on February 20, 2021, at the age of 62.

Ycong was the vice mayor of Radaza, when she was then the mayor of the city for three consecutive terms.
In the recent 2019 elections, when their term ended, Radaza was elected as congresswoman while Ycong was elected as a city councilor.
“Lisod kaayo dawaton. Kabaw baya mo sa among partnership, sa among pinagsamahan. He is always there for me. Akong trabaho isip mayor nahimong mas sayon kaayo kay partner man nako si Marcial,” Radaza said.
(It’s difficult to accept. You know of our partnership of what we had gone through together. He is always there for me. My work as a mayor then was made easier because Marcial was my partner.)
As a friend, Radaza described Ycong as someone you can always depend on and a truthful and genuine friend.
“But we all know, our friendship is beyond public service,” she added.
Today, February 27, 2021, Ycong will be laid to rest at the Mactan Memorial Garden in Barangay Marigondon at around 1:00 p.m. A Mass will be held before his burial at the Sacred Heart Parish in Barangay Marigondon, at around 11:00 a.m.
