6 ‘online sabongeros’ arrested in Naga City
CEBU CITY, Philippines — Six men who were caught watching and betting money on an ‘online sabong’ were arrested around midnight on Thursday, March 18, at Purok Tabay 2, Barangay Inayagan in Naga City, southern Cebu.
The men were accidentally arrested by Naga police who were conducting contact tracing and posting home quarantine protocols in the said place along with personnel from the City Health Office and the Contact Tracer staff of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG-7).
Arrested were Alex Jhun Gutierrez, 25; Joeriz Geonzon, 30; Warlito Ubas, 38; Gerardo Ubas, 51; Kristopher Clyde Jimenez, 19, and Joel Abella, 47. The men are residents of the said barangay.
According to a police report forwarded by Naga Police Station, the suspects were seen watching “online sabong” using a laptop and a wide white fabric as a screen. Betting money worth P2,734 was also seized.
Police said the six reportedly resisted arrest and disobeyed the officers.
They are currently detained in Naga Police Station awaiting the filing of charges for violation of Presidential Decree (PD) 1602 and Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code. /rcg
