A FEMALE anti-jaywalking enforcer was injured after she was hit by a delivery truck in downtown Cebu City yesterday morning.
Joselyn Navecilla was about to apprehend a jaywalker when she was hit by a delivery truck driven by Noel Kamokamo.
Navecilla is a member of the anti-jaywalking task force of the Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom).
Navecilla was taken to the Cebu City Medical Center.
“Apiki na kaayo pag-brake nako. Kalit man lang siya og labang (She suddenly crossed the road. I tried to step on the brakes but it was too late),” said Kamokamo, who surrendered to the police. He was later released from police custody.
Because of the series of accidents involving traffic enforcers, Cebu City acting Mayor Edgardo Labella advised Citom to conduct more trainings and orientation for its personnel.
“There should be proper orientation and training especially for new personnel or those who are assigned to new posts,” Labella said.
Last July 18, traffic enforcer Bonifacio dela Cruz was injured after a motorist ran over him.
Dela Cruz tried to apprehend the motorist for ignoring traffic signal.
Three days before that incident, traffic aide Ma. Teresa Bascones was killed after she was hit by a van driven by a Korean national while she was manning traffic on Gov. Cuenco Avenue in barangay Banilad.
