MANDAUE CITY, Cebu—The Mandaue City Government has formally given the P500,000 incentive to barangay Bakilid on Monday, November 15, 2021, for being the city’s first barangay to be declared drug-cleared.

Mayor Jonas Cortes thanked the barangay officials for their vigorous campaign against illegal drugs and assured that the city would continue to support all barangays in their fight against illegal drugs.

Bakilid was declared drug cleared  by the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-7) on September, 28, 2021.

City Councilor Nerissa Soon-Ruiz, the spokesperson of the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council, earlier said, the city will give P500,000 incentive to the barangays that will be declared drug cleared.

Ruiz said the incentive will be used to help drug surrenderees in their livelihood.

Currently, of the city’s 27 barangays, only Bakilid has achieved a drug-cleared status.

A drug-cleared barangay means that the barangay has accounted all its drug dependents and are able to complete the intervention programs given to them.
