CEBU CITY, Philippines—The Cebu Integrated Flag Football Association (CIFFA) plans to establish a solid grassroots program in Cebu City for 2023.

To formalize their plans, CIFFA commissioner Marvin Callorina, Southskills Inc. commissioner Bernarbu sports news

d Pardillo, and Vibora Warriors commissioner Cherry Mae Callorina met with Cebu City Councilor Jessica Resch on August 19, 2022.

The meeting mainly discussed the budget proposal for CIFFA’s sports programs for 2023.

CIFFA and Resch are planning to collaborate in creating a sports program that will cater to young flag football aspirants, particularly at the grassroots level, within Cebu City.

Despite its popularity, flag football hasn’t been a hit to many Cebuanos compared to sports such as basketball, volleyball, and football.

This is why the group is hoping to introduce and establish flag football to Cebuano youngsters.

The group is also in close cooperation with other flag football groups in Cebu such as the Cebu Flag Football League (CFFL) in its bid to grow the sport.

CIFFA official Miguel Callorina told CDN Digital that some of their plans for flag football  is a high school public and private school training camp which mainly introduces sports to youngsters.

Another is to establish a grassroots program for the college level, where they can introduce the Cebu Rookie Flag Football Cup.  They will then add an inter-collegiate flag football league and an inter-city league.

Their bigger plans include a national tournament featuring teams from around the country, an all-men’s and all-women’s flag football cup, a Sinulog Cup and Halloween, and Christmas Bowl leagues.

“These are all of our plans, but our priority is to establish a grassroots program in flag football,” Callorina concluded.
