CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Cebu City government is now in talks with its Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) to address the issue of a contractor who allegedly abandoned a road concreting project in Barangay Kalunasan due to alleged non-payment.

In an interview on Wednesday, City Administrator Suzanne Ardosa said she met already with the city engineer and the project engineer and asked them to submit to her office the latest status of the P24 million road-concreting project in Monares Street, Barangay Kalunasan.

“Ako silang gipa-submit sa status kay naa to’y gamay lang mga issues that we have to resolve kay para regarding their request for billing ug unsay mga reasons nganong ing-ana ang nahitabo sa project. Human ana maglingkod mi’g balik (to talk) og unsay next action to take,” she said.

She said the city will also schedule a meeting with the project contractor.

In an earlier report, Kalunasan Barangay Captain Nunilon Monares, Jr. confirmed that the contractor stopped its concreting works after it reportedly had not received payment from the City Government even though the said project is already 40 percent complete.

CDN Digital is withholding the name of the contractor pending their side on the matter.

Should it be proven that the contractor abandoned the project, she said, they would refer the matter to the City Legal Office.

“Ato ng gi-discuss ganina kay naa man na sa atong kontrata under unsa nga situation nga pwede ma stop ang project nya mao sad na akong gipangutana dinha, unsa nga circumstances kay sa pagkakaron I think wala siyay formal pa nga gipaundang ang trabaho. So, meaning nag sige pa ang pagdagan sa project number of days,” she said.

“We never award a project without a budget,” she added.    /rcg
