MACAU—THE world once again bore witness to a boxing spectacle yesterday when Manny “The Pacman” Pacquiao squared off with Chris Algieri for the Hungry For Glory  fight card at the Cotai Arena of the sprawling The Venetian Macao here.

The boxing extravaganza that saw Pacquiao beating Algieri via a unanimous decision was a big hit as the 15,000-seater arena was filled to the rafters.

Top promotional outfits, led by Top Rank Promotions, teamed up for the mammoth event. A group of World Boxing Organization (WBO) officials from Cebu were also tapped to ensure the success of the event.

The Cebuanos who had key roles were led by Cebu Daily News columnist and international judge Salven Lagumbay, who was one of the judges in two of yesterday’s three world title fights. International judge Edward Ligas also worked on  the undercard fights, while Rene Bonsubre was assigned as one of the ring physicians.

Arnie Najera, along with Ligas and Lagumbay, were also assigned as ring inspectors in the some of the fights of the eight- bout card.
Larry Balansag was the official timekeeper, while Romar Kristoffer Embodo was the chief dressing room inspector. Tony Pesons also lent a hand in the technical side.

Some Cebu politicians were also in attendance such as Cebu 4th District Rep. Benhur Salimbangon, former Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña and Cebu City North District Rep. Raul del Mar. Cebuano Businessman Chester Cokaliong and his family were also in attendance.
