AN IRISH man was found dead in his hotel room in uptown Cebu City past noon yesterday.

Police said there were no signs of struggle that may indicate there was foul play involved in the death of Hugo Gerald Galagher, who was found dead in his room at Crown Regency Hotel and Tower on Osmeña Boulevard.

Galagher, 44, checked in at the hotel last Dec. 20. He was a native of Smithfield Road, Egroement, Ireland.

Ryan Coaca of the hotel’s housekeeping personnel told police that he went to the room past 2 p.m. as part of his routine to check.

Coaca said he repeatedly knocked but no one responded.

Coaca said he opened the door using a key card and found Galagher sitting on the floor with several bottles of wine beside him.

Coaca said he thought nothing was amiss since there were times he chanced upon the man sleeping on the floor.

Coaca said he went near the man and noticed that he was no longer breathing.

Paramedics from the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation were called but the man was already dead when they arrived.

Police said an autopsy will be made to determine the cause of death.
