Villamor adjusts Nietes’ training

ALA Boxing Gym’s chief trainer Edito “Ala” Villamor said he will make the necessary adjustments in the training of two-division world champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes after the latter’s opponent for his WBO light flyweight title defense on March 28 was replaced.

The fight is the main event of Pinoy Pride 30 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Metro Manila.

According to Villamor, they have already completed about 80 percent of Nietes’ (34-1-4, 20KOs) training at the ALA Boxing Gym in Talamban when ALA Promotions International, the WBO and Zanfer Promotions decided to replace Luis Ceja with another Mexican Gilberto Parra.

Villamor however, assured that the sudden change did not affect Nietes’ focus and determination to win the fight.

“It’s not a problem for us. I assure everyone that we are ready for everything. We are prepared to face opponents with different styles because we are ready to study and come up with our plan,” Villamor said.

Villamor describes Parra as a tough ring warrior with a high knockout percentage. Parra only suffered two losses with 19 wins and 17 knockouts.

“We will only make little adjustments since Ceja is also a knockout artist. I am confident that Donnie can easily adjust to Parra’s style because of his vast experience,” Villamor added.

If Nietes wins, he will make a mandatory title defense against minimum weight king Francisco Rodriguez Jr. (17-2-1, 11KOs) tentatively  on July.
