The Foundation for Economic Freedom (FEF) has called on the Marcos administration to temporarily lift or at least cut import tariffs on rice to check surging prices of the staple grain and avert a possible “full-blown rice crisis.”

FEF said lifting or reducing the 35-percent import tariff provided under the rice tariffication law was a better option than imposing a price cap of P41 a kilogram on regular-milled rice and P45 a kilo on well-milled rice, in accordance with Executive Order No. 39 made public on Friday and set to take effect on Sept. 5.

Tejero shooting: Two dead victims identified; cops turn to CCTV in probe

The two victims, who died after the shooting attack on September 1, 2023, while they were eating inside a barbeque grill house in Barangay Tejero, Cebu City, have been identified.

According to Chief Master Sergeant Edario Manatad of the Waterfront Police Station of the Cebu City Police Office that the shooting victim was Mark Anthony Badayos, 26, of Barangay Pardo, Cebu City.

Manatad also identified Badayos’ female companion, who later died in the hospital after the attack, as Niña Mejos Mahaffy, 42, of Badian town in southern Cebu.

Dissatisfaction with senior high program shows DepEd’s failure – Gatchalian

The high rate of Filipinos dissatisfied with the senior high program shows the Department of Education’s (DepEd) failure to deliver its promised results, said Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian, citing a recent survey conducted by Pulse Asia.

Gatchalian, chair of the Senate committee on basic education, is worried over the Pulse survey results, which showed that 4 out of 10 of the respondents are dissatisfied with the DepEd’s senior high school program, while a roughly equal number said they were satisfied.

Cebu to experience generally fair weather, says Pagasa-Mactan

Metro Cebu will experience a “generally fair weather” for this week, according to an official of Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration Mactan (Pagasa-Mactan).

Engineer Al Quiblat, chief of Pagasa-Mactan, told CDN Digital on Sunday, September 3, that Metro Cebu was not affected by the recent typhoon.
