Hermosa, Alcoseba, Mangrobang, Casares completed race in 1 hour, 33 minutes and 59 seconds - 7th among 12 teams

Triathlon mixed relay team of PH finishes seventh in Asian Games

CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Philippine triathlon team mixed relay where two Cebuanos in Matthew Justine Hermosa and Raven Faith Alcoseba wound up seventh place in the Asian Games on Monday, October 2, 2023 at the Chun’an Jieshou Sports Centre Triathlon Course.

The Philippines mixed relay team finished the race in one hour, 33 minutes, and 59 seconds to capture the seventh place among the 12 relay teams that competed in the Olympic-distance triathlon race.

Hermosa, Alcoseba’s time

Alcoseba who finished 16th in the women’s individual triathlon race last September 30 finished her mixed relay race in 22 minutes and 12 seconds, while Hermosa clocked in 24:37, in his lone event in the Asian Games.

Both Alcoseba and Hermosa were first-timers in the Asian Games. 

Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) gold medalists Kim Mangrobang and Fernando Casares finished the race in 25:01 and 22:09, respectively.

Mangrobang, Casares’ time

In last September 30’s women’s individual race, Mangrobang finished 13th overall, while Casares settled for 10th place a day before in the men’s individual race. 

Japan topped the mixed relay race with the time of 1:26.21 to capture the gold medal. Japan was comprised of men’s and women’s individual race gold medalists in Kenji Nener and Yuko Takahashi. 

Also joining them were Takumi Hojo and Yuka Sato.

China gets silver

Meanwhile, China earned the silver medal with in 1:27.48. China’s relay team was manned by Mingxu Li, Xinyu Lin, Junjie Fan, and Anqi Huang.

Earning the bronze medal was Hong Kong in 1:28.22, with Tsz To Wong, Bailee Brown, Jason Tai Long Ng, and Charlotte Hall racing for the team.
