USC Warriors open Cesafi Esports League campaign with 3 dominating wins on Saturday

CEBU CITY, Philippines— The University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors started their campaign in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi) Esports League (CEL) Season 2 by winning all three of their matches on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) Lahug campus. 

The Warriors, who finished as first-runners-up in the inaugural season last year, defeated the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters, 2-0, in the Mobile Legends Bang Bang. 

They went on to beat the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons with another, 2-0, in their second match.

They sealed their highly productive day with a 2-0 win against their rival, and CEL defending champions, the UC Lapu-Lapu Mandaue (UCLM) Webmasters, 2-0. 

Shin Maverick “Shin” Formaran led USC in winning two of their matches. Formaran averaged 5.5 kills and 4.5 assists in their win over UC. He tallied three kills and 7.5 assists in their victory against UCLM. 

His teammate put on a dominating performance against CEC by averaging eight kills and 8.5 assists. 

Despite losing to USC, ULCM Webmasters, UC Webmasters, and CEC each won on Saturday. 

Skipper Lei “Lai” Bacarro scored 11 kills and nine assists in UCLM’s win over UC, while the latter’s Patrick Errol “Eros” Ortilano put his team on the winning side when they defeated CEC, 2-0, by scoring eight kills and 8.5 assists. 

CEC grabbed its lone victory by beating UCLM, 2-0, behind Dominic “Domsqwee” Rabago’s 5.5 kills and 3.5 assists. / dcb
