MANILA, Philippines —  The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) cautioned the public on Thursday about a TikTok video falsely claiming to offer educational assistance for students.

The said video is no longer available,  but a screen capture shared by the DSWD said that it claimed that those who want to avail of the alleged assistance should  fill out a “Social Amelioration Card” form and must wait for a text message or a call.

The DSWD said that it will not ask for personal information online as it violates the Data Privacy Act.

“Para sa kaalaman ng lahat, ang DSWD ay hindi nanghihingi ng personal information online para sa application ng ‘educational assistance’ dahil ito ay labag sa Data Privacy Act,” it said.

It added that its Tara, Basa! tutoring program, which engages 2nd to 4th-year college students to teach children who have difficulties learning how to read, is available for those whose families are economically challenged.

The DSWD also told the public to analyze and verify online content as those which do not come from credible sources may be sources of scams.
