More than 1,500 patients were treated to free medical services such as optical, dental, maternal, other laboratory services and minor surgical procedures last July 4 by Cebu Parklane International Hotel (CPIH).

“Many people from various communities in Cebu are here to avail of the basic services that are hard to access for free,” said Rowel Tejam, one of the organizers of the medical mission called “Parklane Gives Back.”

Cebuanos coming from barangays Luz, Apas, Kasambagan and from far-off barangays grabbed the chance to avail the free services offered annually by the hotel.

“Amo gyud ni gi-atangan kada tuig, kay dako kaayo ni nga hinabang, labi na para sa akong mga anak,” said Roanne Lopez, a 42-year-old mother of three, who availed of the free services with her children. (We are waiting for this medical mission every year, because this really helps our family, especially my children).

Tejam said that this year, they catered to more persons with disabilites (PWDs), a welcome development as they also join the celebration of the PWD Month.

Volunteers were from various organizations in Cebu such as the Jesu Christi Volunteer Doctors, Dr. Letecia Alo Dental Services, Rivers of Living Water, Armed Forces of the Philippines Central Command, the Philippine Society of General Surgeons, the Philippine Accessible Deaf Services Inc.,  nurses from the Cebu City Medical Center and the University of San Carlos.

“Our volunteers have been here since 8 a.m., and I couldn’t be more thankful for all the help they have offered,” said Tejam.

The annual medical mission is funded by proceeds from Hunat Sugbu 5, a run organized by CPIH last June 21. /UP Cebu Intern Juli Ann M. Sibi
