By: Nestle L. Semilla August 18,2015 - 01:13 AM

The Cebu City Council approved an  ordinance that will enable random drug testing of city government employees.

The random tests also cover personnel and officials of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), the Bureau of Fire Protection and officials and employees of barangays in the city.

Cebu City Councilor Nestor Archival Sr. amended the original City Ordinance 1829 which requires drug tests for those applying for work in the city.

Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama said he agrees with the amendment in the ordinance provided that the test results  are clear.

From January to July, COSAP head Dr. Alice Utlang said 42 City Hall employees tested positive for drug use.
