AFTER seeing their unbeaten streak come to a screeching end, the Worthy-backed University of the Visayas Green Lancers try to get back on the winning track as they take on the very same team that handed them their first and only defeat—the Mighty Sports-University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars—in Game 1 of the best-of-three finals in the 8th Cesafi Partner’s Cup today at the Cebu Coliseum.

UV got shocked by USJ-R, 72-79, at the end of the semifinal round on Tuesday, a rousing defeat that forged a three-way tie where both the Jaguars and the Lancers came away with the top two records, in the process relegating the Phinma-Southwestern University Cobras to a knockout match for third place against the Highlands Corned Beef-University of Cebu Webmasters.

With that defeat in mind, the Green Lancers are expected to go for broke and come a step closer to hoisting the title they last held in 2014. Showing no ill effects from the departure of stars Jun Manzo and Leonard Santillan just a few months ago, the Lancers have found their footing behind the play of a few rookies and some established veterans.

Stepping up so far are rookies Tristan Albina and Sheldon Gahi while Rey Suerte, Josue Segumpan and Liberian import Bassiere Sackor have also pulled their weight to bring UV to the finals.

USJ-R on the other hand, will counter with an athletic crew led by RJ Dinolan, Miguel Gastador, Tricky Peromingan and all-around guard Jaybie Mantilla.
