REGISTRATION for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (BSK) elections starts on Friday, July 15, the provincial Commission on Elections (Comelec-7) office announced last Friday.

Comelec Provincial Supervisor Lionel Marco Castillano said those aged 15 to 17 years old are advised to register for the SK elections at their respective Comelec offices while those 18 years old and above will have to register at their barangay halls.

Castillano said registration will run for 15 days and will end on July 30.

The filing of the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) will be determined as soon as the Comelec releases their calendar of activities through a resolution.

He said the election day will be the last Monday of October which is on October 31.

Meanwhile, Castillano said those who will be running for SK positions that are related up to the second degree of consanguinity to any elected local and national official will not be allowed to run. “Someone has to file a complaint,” he said.

Castillano said this is a first time requirement under the anti-dynasty provision of the Constitution incorporated in the SK Reform Law.

This will now give others a chance to run in the election.

Castillano will recommend to the Comelec chairman to refrain from using the cash cards to disburse the honorarium of board of election inspectors (BEIs).

He said that based on their initial post election report, some members of the BEIs still haven’t received their honorarium from last May’s election.
