A Moalboal policeman is now facing investigation after two inmates under his watch escaped last Tuesday night.
PO3 Ramon Chinel was the desk officer on duty when inmates Romeo Gabato, 41, and Jonfert Abrenica, 26, escaped. A manhunt operation is now being conducted to recapture the two who were arrested in a buy-bust operation last August. The two were supposed to have been transferred to the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center but the provincial jail is still overcrowded and would not yet accept inmates.
Chinel said the two were taking advantage while he and his fellow cops were having dinner amidst heavy downpour around 8 p.m. last Tuesday. He said Gabato and Abrenica pulled the rusted iron grills with their bare hands to create a hole enough for them to pass through. Chinel said he was willing to accept whatever punishment imposed on him by his chief of police. He explained that he was doing many functions at the time the two inmates escaped, such as a jailer, a desk officer and as investigator.
