Carreta’s BADAC vows to intensify fight against illegal drugs
CEBU CITY, Philippines — Members of the Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) in Barangay Carreta, Cebu City have made a promise to intensify their campaign against illegal drugs by ensuring the implementation of their 12-point agenda this year.
During the “Kapihan sa Carreta” that was launched at the barangay hall on Tuesday, January 10, Councilor Antonio Conahap, who is also the BADAC action officer, said they would intensify the barangay’s intelligence gathering as well as the conduct of “lecture-concerts” to bring their campaign to the grassroots.
“Kapihan sa Carreta” is a barangay-initiated activity wherein barangay officials hope to meet with members of the media and other personalities in order to provide updates on their anti-drug initiatives.
Conahap said this was also their way of sharing updates to their 12,700 residents.
Earlier, Carreta’s BADAC came up with a Comprehensive One-Year Development Report, which mentioned that a total of 65 drug personalities were arrested from January to December 2022. The list included drug users and pushers.
Badac focal person Lynleynita Saga said a total of 291.8 grams of illegal drugs with a street value of P2, 027, 080 were also seized during the same period.
Meanwhile, Conahap said they plan to hold anti-illegal drug lecture-concerts in the five bigger sitios in their barangay, namely Sitios Ponce 2, Laray, Negative Barrio, North Reclamation Area, and the Chinese-Ludo Cemetery.
Conahap said holding lecture-concerts is expected to draw larger crowds as compared to merely holding an anti-drug symposium.
In addition, Conahap said they plan to sustain the implementation of their Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation Program (CBDRP) to help in the recovery of drug addicts.
The program also include the conduct of Oplan Pakighihimamat, drug rehab sessions, random drug testings, organizing graduation ceremonies for CBDRP completers, and the conduct of follow-up activities for CBDRP graduates.
The barangay has allocated a budget of P180,000 for its anti-drug programs this year.
