THE Liberal Party (LP) slates in the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu kicked off their respective campaign sorties in festive fashion yesterday.

Rep. Luigi Quisumbing of Cebu’s 6th district, who’s running for mayor, and ally Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes proclaimed their candidacies along with their lineup in Barangays Subangdaku and Pakna-an.

In Lapu-Lapu City, Mayor Paz Radaza and her lineup launched their candidacies in a vacant lot near the boundaries of Barangays Mactan and Punta Engaño at past 7 p.m.

The LP Mandaue slate attended a private Mass at the San Roque Parish in  Barangay Subangdaku and held a torch parade that kicked off at the church, Logarta Street and Lopez Jaena highway.

The parade ended at the Subangdaku garden where supporters dressed in yellow shirts brought balloons and confetti that they later released at the end of the launching.

Subangdaku Barangay Chairman and Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) President Ernie Manatad introduced the candidates led by Quisumbing and Cortes, who will run for Cebu’s sixth congressional seat.

After the proclamation at Barangay Subangdaku, Quisumbing led half of the local candidates to Barangay Paknaan where he and running mate Carlo Fortuna were proclaimed before a crowd at a vacant lot where the Silhig Festival was held.

Quisumbing said their battle cry of “Mandaue Labaw Kanako” (Mandaue Above Myself) that were printed in big-sized tarpaulins will pursue programs started by Cortes such as infrastructure and social housing.

Cortes also vowed to work for the conversion of Mandaue City as a lone congressional district and the cityhood of Consolacion town as well as bring more developments in Cordova town if elected to office.
