Casimero gets back at Thai opponent in convincing fashion

ORMOC City’s John Riel “Cuadro Alas” Casimero got his revenge and he did it with style, knocking out his tormentor Amnat Ruenroeng of Thailand in their rematch last Wednesday night in China.

Casimero (22-3-0, 14KOs) waited for almost a year to get his rematch against Ruenroeng (17-1-0, 5KOs) and when he did, he made sure he’d end up on top as he finished off his Thai foe at the 2:10 mark of the fourth round.

The win gave Casimero’s the IBF flyweight title, making him a two-division world champion. Ruenroeng, on the other hand, not only lost the title bus also suffered his first loss of his career.

It was a sweet revenge for Casimero, the former IBF world light flyweight champion, who lost via unanimous decision to the same foe last year in Thailand.

That bout was controversial as Ruenroeng wrestled Casimero to the canvas several times without being deducted a point.

But with the famed Tony Weeks handling the fight and the bout being held in neutral grounds this time, Ruenroeng wasn’t able to use his usual tactics.

Casimero took advantage of this and downed Ruenroeng for the first time in the fourth round via a counter left hook to the head.

Ruenroeng was able to beat Weeks’ count but only to get hit with another left hook, this time to the side of his body. He never recovered from that.

Casimero’s promoter Sampson Lewkowicz is planning to pit him against the undefeated WBC flyweight champion Roman Gonzales of Nicaragua to unify titles.
