CEBU CITY, Philippines — Tuburan police said they found no evidence that would point to foul play in the death of a father and his son who were electrocuted in Tuburan town on Sunday, August 8,

Police Staff Sergeant Mark Joseph Toring, the duty investigator of Tuburan Police Station, said that it was only on Monday evening when they learned about the incident when it was posted on social media.

Hence, they conducted an investigation to verify if there was foul play in the death of the two.

Toring said Edelberto Ligaray, 58, laborer, and his 13-year-old son were already dead when found on Monday noon at the back of a bakeshop located in Barangay IV, Tuburan town.

Police said both victims were residents of Barangay Putat of the same town.

Quoting their initial investigation, Toring said that Ligaray was called to fix an uneven portion of the bakeshop’s floor. Ligaray went there together with his son as the latter would usually help his father with his work.

While they were working, Toring said that the father could have asked his son to move a dog cage a bit.

(The dog cage was placed near a broken outlet. Maybe the child was told to move the cage a bit and when he did, he was electrocuted. The father may have attempted to save his son and got electrocuted too.)

Toring added that it was also raining in Tuburan at dawn of Sunday .

The son of the bakeshop owner, a certain John Rey Dela Cerna, told police that he found the two already lifeless when he checked on them.

The victims were rushed to the Tuburan District Hospital where they were declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Toring said that the victims’ family and the bakeshop owner have already settled the matter after the latter shouldered all the burial expenses of the tw victimso.
