Shangri-La Mactan, celebrates Earth Hour, in line with their commitment to sustainability. The 5-star resort, together with their partners and guests were immersed in different activities all over the property; from Fish House Making, Tree Planting, and Sunset Zumba. Shangri-La inspires friends and family to undertake such commitment to a brighter and more sustainable future for the generations to come.
One of the highlights of the celebration was the coral restoration initiative, together with Ocean Ripple. Established in 2007, Shangri-La Mactan has taken immense pride in its 6-hectare marine sanctuary with over 160 species of fish, clams, and coral. The team, together with concerned nature warriors worked individually and collectively to launch regular coastal and dive clean-ups as well as coral recovery programs.
But due to the wrath of Typhoon Odette, communities, the resort — including the treasured wildlife sanctuary, were all left in ruins. The Shangri-La family believes that one must live in harmony with nature, and one has a lifelong responsibility to care for the environment. In line with their commitment to biodiversity conservation, the team will be launching a campaign to revive the deep blues. Shangri-La aims to return the sanctuary to its original state by planning programs and consistent cleanups, together with key individuals and organizations. Earth Hour is the perfect avenue to kickoff such campaign initiative.
To cap off the occasion, an intimate program headed by General Manager, Mr. Dave Junker, was one of the highlights of the Earth Hour celebration. It was commemorated by the hour-long lights off initiative and guests also took part in lighting the candles to illuminate the night as they stand united for this cause. It was followed by their Earth Cake slicing. A blazing performance from the fire dancers also set a joyous tone to the Earth Hour activity.
