CEBU CITY, Philippines— Vispop is back for its tenth-year celebration!
After roughly five years since the last Visayan Pop or Vispop contest was held, Vispop’s co-founder and Cebuano music producer and composer Jude Gitamondoc finally opens this door for budding Cebuano musicians.
“Since na wala ang vispop pag 2017, pag 2018 nag sugod og pangdawat og Bisaya songs ang Filpop ug himig handog. And pag 2019 ang vispop na recognize sa Spotify as a music genre.
And so that’s why for 2022 to 2023 our coop decided that it is about time to celebrate 10 years of Vispop music and mao nang gi mugna ning Vispop X which is in celebration of Visayan music,” he said.
For Vispop’s tenth-year anniversary celebration the theme will be, “Bisaya music in the mainstream.”
There were at least 300 entries for this year’s Vispop contest.
“We have 15 Semi Finalists, but only 6 will eventually make it to the finals,” said Gitamondoc.
Finals night will be on August 28.
With Vispop’s comeback, Gitamondoc and the rest of the Vispop team can finally make a move to be closer to their dream for Cebu City.
“The goal is to establish Cebu City as the capital city of Vispop music in the Philippines.” /rcg
