CEBU CITY, Philippines — Two drunk men, who let the liquor get into their heads, hack and wounded two other men in separate hacking attacks on Saturday, September 9.

The hacking attacks happened at about the same time in Ronda town in southwestern Cebu and in Toledo town in western Cebu.

Attacked without any provocation

At past 3 p.m. on Saturday, a 60-year-old mason, who was working on a house in Barangay Liboo, Ronda town, was attacked without provocation by a drunk man who passed by the area where he was working.

 According to Police Master Sergeant Arnold Ator, investigator of the Ronda Police Station, in his report, that the man identified as Jomar Torino, who was believed to have drank liquor and was drunk, attacked the mason, Apolinar Ferolin, first by allegedly trying to smash his head with a rock.

Hit in the face

But Ferolin, who was surprised by the attack, managed to duck, causing Torino to miss hitting the victim.

Police Master Sergeant Ator said in his report that the drunk Torino, who had gotten angrier at missing the victim with the rock, allegedly pulled out a bolo and hacked the victim.

Ator said that the victim was hit and wounded in the face.

Attempted homicide filed against suspect

The suspect, Torino of Alcantara town, after hacking the victim fled from the crime scene.

The victim, Ferolin of Ronda town, was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Police Corporal Bet Voltaire of the Ronda Police Station in an interview with CDN Digital on Monday, September 10, said that the suspect, Torino was still at-large as 8 a.m.

Voltaire said that they were still conducting a hot-pursuit operation against the Torino.

He let liquor get into his head

He also said that the victim was still admitted and treated at the hospital as of this morning.

Police Corporal Voltaire also said that attempted homicide charges were already filed against Torino this morning.

“Da ra gyod to sa kahubog,” said Voltaire when asked why the suspect attacked the victim.

(It was really because he was drunk.[He must have let liquor get into his head.])

Toledo hacking

At about the same time in Sitio Tinahas, Barangay Media Onse in Toledo City, an angry and drunk security guard, who was bringing with him a bolo, barged into a birthday party looking for his live-in partner.

According to the report of Police Major Janus Giangan, Toledo Police Station chief, that when the security guard identified as 39-year-old Valynt Norilla did not see his live in partner there, he suddenly hacked the person nearest him, identified as 43-year-old Wilson Tan Tan, a welder of a mining firm in the area.

Tan Tan managed to shield himself with his hand and he was hit in the palm when Norilla hacked him.

Suspect settled amicably with victim

Norilla fled after hacking Tan Tan and the victim was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Police later arrested Norilla, who was identified by a witness as the one who attacked Tan Tan.

Norilla was detained at the Barili Police Station, but he was released today after relatives of Norilla talked to the victim and managed to get an amicable settlement for Norilla with the victim.

Police Major Giangan said that Norilla agreed to pay for the hospital expenses of the victim.
