An inmate of Lapu-Lapu City Jail is now in critical condition after he was stabbed at least 30 times by his fellow inmate on Monday, September 18.

The victim was identified as Dennis Dumael, of legal age, and an inmate of this penal facility for eight years facing a rape charge.

Police said jealousy could be the motive behind the stabbing incident since it happened after the suspect learned that the victim had been calling his wife.

What compounded the situation was that the suspect’s wife had failed to pay him a visit to the jail facility.

Theft cases highest among eight focus crimes – Cebu City police officer

Cebu City police said the number of theft cases in the city increased by more than 20 percent in the April to September 2023 period compared to the same period last year.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Janette Rafter, deputy director for operations of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said that cases of theft were the highest in the city among the eight focus crimes.

She identified the eight focus crimes as physical injuries, homicide, murder, robbery, theft, carnapping, motornapping, and rape.

Rafter, who did not cite any statistics, said shoplifting was the top crime under the theft category, and she attributed the increase to the emergence of more shopping malls and the reopening of shops after the pandemic.

Exceptionally well-preserved dinosaur skeleton to go on auction in Paris

In other news, millions of years after dinosaurs disappeared from the face of the Earth, the skeleton of a Camptosaurus will go on auction in Paris on October 20. This is for the first time since its discovery in the 1990s.

The dinosaur, named Barry, was discovered in north-eastern Wyoming in a private property. It lived at the end of the Jurassic period, roughly 150 million years ago.

The dinosaur’s skeleton is 6.9 feet tall and 16.4 feet long. It is composed of over 80 percent original bone, an unusually high percentage.

The animal’s skull in particular, complete with teeth, is exceptionally well preserved, with over 90 percent of its original bone. It is one of the most complete ever documented.

The dinosaur’s skeleton is now set to be presented to the public in mid-October before going under the hammer. It is expected to fetch up to 1.2 million Euros or 1.28 million dollars.

Liza Soberano ‘explores opportunities’ in Korea while Hollywood career ‘on pause’

Actress Liza Soberano, who has been Manila-based for three months now, admitted that her bid for a Hollywood career had been stalled by the ongoing actors’ strike there, especially since she is also a member of the SAG-Aftra.

The strike organized by the Screen Actors’ Guild and the American Federation of Radio and TV Artists began on July 14.

The group is calling for increased pay and a rethinking of residuals, which union members claimed has diminished in spite of the rise in streaming services. Residuals are paid out to actors whenever their TV shows or movies are replayed.

Liza, though, clarified that she doesn’t want her fans to think that she’s not going to act anymore. It’s just that, she said she could not take on any projects legally until the strike would be over.

This is why Liza has since turned her attention to putting up her own production company. Also, she has been going to South Korea to “explore opportunities” there. In fact, she was there for some business meetings when she did this interview with Inquirer Entertainment.
