Man from Dalaguete, Cebu hacks own father after heated argument

A family in Dalaguete town, southern Cebu had a bloody Sunday on July 9 after a heated altercation between the father and his son became violent.

A 36-year-old man landed in jail after he was accused of hacking his own father multiple times, police in Dalaguete town confirmed.

Police Major Clemente Ceralde Jr., chief of Dalaguete Police Station, identified the suspect as Jeniffer Maglinte Hontiveros.

Negros Oriental : 100 cops sent there as Barangay, SK Elections draw near

In preparation for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections, the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) sent 100 policemen from the Regional Mobile Force Battalion in Central Visayas (RMFB-7) to Negros Oriental.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Ace Pelare, PRO-7 spokesperson, said that the initiative was in line with the intention of Police Brigadier General Anthony Aberin, PRO-7 director, to have a “very peaceful and secure Barangay and SK election not only in Negros Oriental but in the whole Central Visayas.”

Lumad Basakanons mourn death of Ricky Ballesteros

Former Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) Executive Director Ricky Ballesteros was supposed to join the Lumad Basakanons of Barangay Basak San Nicolas in Cebu City as they dance the Sinulog in the Aliwan Festival’s grand parade on Saturday, July 15.

The Aliwan, which is a competition of regional festival champions, is making a comeback after a three-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

But Ballesteros died on Saturday, July 8.

Danao City opens its doors to more investments

Danao City in northern Cebu is opening its doors to more investments in order to achieve its dream of becoming a model of sustainable development in the Province of Cebu and the rest of the country.

Mayor Tomas Mark Durano said that as a long-term goal, they hoped to also become a smart city or an urban area that would use digital solutions for the benefit of its inhabitants and businesses.

In order to achieve all these, Durano said they would need additional investments in their city.  But he said that these investments should be eco-friendly.
