CEBU CITY, Philippines—Cebu City will provide financial and technical assistance to Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Beatrice Luigi Gomez and Miss World Philippines 2021 Tracy Maureen Perez for their representing the country in international pageants.

The City Council has approved the resolution of Councilor Jessica Resch to provide assistance to the two women who represented Cebu City in their respective pageants and will now represent the entire country.

In a privilege speech, Resch said Gomez and Perez had made Cebu City proud for showing not only the beauty but also the prowess of Cebuanas.

The councilor noted that Gomez struggled to represent the city in the Miss Universe Philippines competition with a lack of financial resources and support.

Yet she managed to hurdle the challenges and emerge victorious in the beauty and brains pageant.

“Albeit late, it is but proper and, in my belief, a moral obligation on the part of the Cebu City government to rally behind individuals, like Ms. Gomez, who bring pride and joy to our city. Those, like her, who represent Cebu City on a national or world stage and perform in ways that we can truly and sincerely be proud of – giving justice to the Cebuana ideals and standards,” said Resch.

“Those, like her, who despite not getting a single cent of support would gamble everything and wear Cebu City proudly across her chest,” she said.

With this, Resch urged the city’s Executive Department to provide ample assistance to the two beauty queens for their upcoming international competitions in December 2021.

The City Council agreed and had requested the Tourism Commission to ensure that the assistance would be provided to Gomez and Perez in the time of the competition.

The City Council also commended all Cebuana representatives in the two pageants including Dr. Shaila Rebortera who won Miss Multinational 2021 representing Talisay City and Miss Steffi Rose Aberasturi who won Second Runner Up for Miss Universe Philippines 2021 representing Cebu Province.

Resch said she hoped that this request of the council would not fall on deaf ears from the city administration because the candidates would need every support they could get not only from Cebu City but from the whole nation.
